Memberships and Appointments: He holds the UNESCO Chair in Information and Computer Ethics. In 2006, he was elected President of IACAP (International Association for Computing And Philosophy). In 2009 he was awarded the Barwise Prize by the American Philosophical Association (read more) and became the first philosopher to be elected Gauss Professor by the Göttingen Academy of Sciences. The Laudatio awarded him the Gauss Professorship in recognition of his work on the philosophy of information. He is a Fellow of St Cross College, University of Oxford and of the Society for the Study of Artificial Intelligence and the Simulation of Behaviour (AISB). He has held visiting appointments and professorships at the University of Bari, the University of Marburg, the University of Rome III, the University of Rotterdam, the University of Lisbon and Northwestern University (Chicago). He is subject editor for Synthese, associate editor of The Information Society and a member of the editorial boards of several journals, including Ethics and Information Technology, Minds and Machines, International Journal of Technology and Human Interaction, Telematics & Informatics.
Luciano Floridi currently holds the Research Chair in Philosophy of Information and the UNESCO Chair in Information and Computer Ethics, both at the School of Humanities, University of Hertfordshire. He is best known for his pioneering work on two new areas of philosophical research, which he has contributed to establish: the Philosophy of Information and Information Ethics.
