Jane Newbold joined the Centre for Atmospheric and Instrumentation Research(CAIR) in February 2007 having returned from a ten year period overseas. Currently she is working on CAIR4HEALTH which is a two year specific support action (SSA) project funded by the European Commission under the sixth Framework Programme (FP6).
Switching research interests from molecular biology and parasitology to environmental issues in the early 1990s marked a major change of direction. Having completed a Masters in Environmental Chemistry she joined the department of Environmental Sciences at UH working on environmental management systems and also the pesticide section of a software package being developed for environmental management for agriculture. She was involved in teaching and developing courses for undergraduates, postgraduates and professionals. In 1996 she left for Chile where she worked as an independent researcher and consultant but maintained links with UH throughout the ten years overseas providing opportunities for collaboration on projects.
